Gaba №12 Oolong Tea

Gaba 12 (加巴 12) spherical twist oolong tea from Doi Mae Salong in Northern Thailand is a high-quality tea known for its unique processing technique that enhances its GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) content. This method involves anaerobic fermentation, which increases the levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter associated with calming neurological effects. This process not only imparts a distinctive flavor profile to the tea but also contributes to its potential neurostimulation effects, such as promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

Doi Mae Salong is known for its high-quality tea cultivation, which is greatly influenced by Taiwanese tea-making techniques and cultivars introduced in the late 20th century. The region's tea production began as a part of a project to replace opium poppy growing with tea cultivation, supported by the Taiwanese government.

This specific area is characterised by its subtropical climate and high elevations, making it suitable for tea cultivation. The teas from Doi Mae Salong, including the Gaba 12 spherical twist oolong, are grown at elevations above 1,000 meters, which provides a unique microclimate reminiscent of Taiwanese tea growing areas. The soil in this region is rich in organic content with a pH between 4 and 6, and the average annual air temperature ranges between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius, creating ideal conditions for tea cultivation.

The Gaba 12 tea produced using GABA processing techniques, which involve anaerobic fermentation in a nitrogen-rich environment. This process increases the gamma-aminobutyric acid content in the tea, giving it potential health benefits, particularly in neurostimulation and relaxation and a distinctive flavour profile
