Pu-erh Rose Cake Sheng 2021

Pu-erh Rose Cake Sheng 2021 (玫瑰香饼 生普洱) is a 400g pressed raw pu-erh tea cake made from sun-dried maocha of Yunnan’s large-leaf varietal, blended with double-petal rose blossoms. Crafted in Shuangjiang County, a highland area in Pu’er Prefecture known for its ancient tea gardens and wild tree diversity, this cake combines traditional sheng pu-erh with the fragrant, floral character of Yunnan roses.

The maocha used in this tea was processed in the classic sun-drying method, preserving enzymatic activity for natural post-fermentation. The rose petals are layered during pressing, not simply mixed in, allowing their oils to integrate with the leaf over time. This creates a gradually evolving flavor — more floral in youth, deeper and smoother as it ages. The tea is entirely additive-free: no artificial flavorings or sweeteners are used.

When brewed, the tea releases a clear golden infusion with a delicate floral top note. The opening is soft and slightly honeyed, with bright vegetal undertones from the young sheng leaf, while the rose aroma unfolds on the exhale. In later steeps, light bitterness and mineral depth emerge, balancing the bouquet. The tea’s energy (qi) is clear and active, stimulating yet calming — a characteristic of good mountain-grown raw pu-erh.

Produced by Yunnan Shuanglong Ancient Tea Trade Co., this 2021 vintage offers an accessible entry point into scented raw pu-erh. While floral, it remains grounded in the character of traditional sheng — vibrant, textured, and ageable. With careful storage, the rose influence will soften and integrate further over the coming years.

Pu-erh Rose Cake Sheng 2021 is both a sensory experience and a living tea — capable of transformation, with beauty in both its early and mature states.
