Gaba Loose Leaf Black Tea
The Gaba 12 Loose Leaf Tea (佳巴茶) is a specialty large leaf red tea processed using the GABA technique, which enhances the Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid content in the leaves.
This unique method involves anaerobic fermentation, where tea leaves are exposed to a nitrogen-rich environment instead of oxygen, often for several hours. This process transforms glutamic acid in the leaves into GABA, a neurotransmitter known for its calming effects on the nervous system. GABA teas are recognized for their smooth taste with a slightly sweet and fruity undertone.
Originally developed in Japan, this technique has gained popularity in East Asia, including in regions like Doi Mae Salong, Thailand, known for their high-quality tea production.
